Chapter 2 - THE UNSEEN WATCHER

A few yards away, Martha pushed a heavy grey laundry cart.
Her uniform was neat, her grey hair pulled back into a severe bun.
To the rest of the world, she was just another invisible worker in the city.
A tired maid finishing her shift at the luxury hotel.
But Martha’s eyes were sharp, scanning the street with unnatural precision.
She heard the scream. Her head snapped toward the sound.
The tired droop of her shoulders vanished instantly.
Years of dormant muscle memory flared to life in her veins.
She saw the man in the dark suit dragging the struggling child.
She recognized the tactic. She recognized the urgency.
Adrenaline flooded her system, burning away her perceived age.
"Step back!" she roared, her voice booming with unexpected authority.
She didn't hesitate. She grabbed the heavy plastic laundry basket.
With a fierce grunt, she hurled it directly at the kidnapper.
May you like
It crashed onto the pavement, scattering white towels like surrendered flags.
"Get away from her!" Martha screamed, charging forward without a second thought.
