Chapter 17 - The Bloodline Test That Blew Up Wall Street

"Clara," Daniel whispered, stepping toward the intercom unit. His knuckles were white, his jaw clenched so hard his molars ground together. "You butcher. You left your daughter. You left me."
A cold, mocking laugh vibrated through the speakers.
*"I didn't leave a daughter, Daniel. I created an instrument. And now, the market is opening in precisely thirty minutes. Have you checked the international exchanges, Arthur? Or have you been too busy playing nursemaid?"*
Arthur lunged for the emergency terminal on the wall, his fingers flying across the mechanical keyboard. A green monitor blinked to life, displaying the live financial ticker of the New York Stock Exchange and the London Bourse.
Across the bottom of the screen, breaking news banners rolled in furious red text:
**BREAKING: STERLING MARITIME CORP ENTERS EMERGENCY RECEIVERSHIP FOLLOWING CHALLENGE TO PATERNITY TRUST.**
**SWISS ARBITRATION TRIBUNAL INVALIDATES 2018 BLOODLINE CLAUSE.**
**FUGITIVE FINANCIER CLARA STERLING REAPPEARS IN GENEVA, CLAIMS SOLE BENEFICIARY RIGHTS UNDER CONCEALED PROTOCOL.**
"She did it," Arthur whispered, his face sheet-white. "She filed the emergency injunction through Zurich. By challenging Emma's legal adoption papers and proving that she, Clara, is the biological mother of baby Leo, she has successfully frozen all your domestic accounts, Daniel. Every ship, every terminal, every trust fund—you're completely locked out. In the eyes of the law right now, you are holding her children hostage."
"They aren't her children," Daniel snarled. "Sarah carried Leo. And Emma is mine. I raised her while Clara was hiding like a rat in Europe!"
*"You raised her on my money, Daniel,"* Clara's voice purred through the wall. *"And right now, four tactical transport units from the Federal Marshals Service—escorted by my private security contractors—are breaching the outer perimeter of the estate. They have an international custody warrant signed by the Hague. If you fire a single shot, Daniel, you will be gunned down as a domestic kidnapper. The media will watch you die in high definition on CNN."*
Sarah stood up, tears streaming down her face, clutching Leo so tight the baby let out a sharp cry. "Daniel... what do we do? We can't fight the federal government. They'll take him away from me!"
Emma walked over to Sarah, gently placing her small hand on the baby’s forehead. Leo instantly quieted down.
Emma looked up at her father. Her small face was set with a resolve that no eight-year-old should ever possess.
"Daddy," Emma said softly. "The air vent in the basement doesn't go to the roof. It goes to the old coal chute beneath the boathouse."
Daniel stared at his daughter. "How do you know that, Emma?"
May you like
"Because Mommy didn't build the dollhouse to watch you," Emma replied, her voice steady. "She built it to hide the blueprints. I memorized them three years ago, Daddy. I know every door she thinks she locked."
