Chapter 15 - The Boardroom Ambush

The following morning, Manhattan awoke to a financial earthquake.

By 8:00 AM, the front page of the *Wall Street Journal*, the *Financial Times*, and every digital outlet on Earth carried the same explosive headline:

**"THE STOLEN HEIR: BLACKWOOD DYNASTY ACCUSED OF CONCEALING SOVEREIGN STERLING SUCCESSION."**

Trading on Blackwood Enterprises stock was halted within forty-five minutes as the market plummeted twelve percent. Shareholders panicked. The board of directors demanded an emergency convening at the corporate headquarters on Wall Street.

At 9:30 AM, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.

Julian Blackwood strode into the room, impeccably dressed in a charcoal three-piece suit, his presence commanding absolute, suffocating authority. Behind him walked Marcus and a team of six senior corporate attorneys carrying thick black leather binders.

The twelve members of the board—seasoned billionaires, venture capitalists, and political power brokers—fell instantly silent.

"Sit down," Julian said coldly, taking his place at the head of the sixty-foot mahogany conference table.

"Julian, this is madness!" shouted Arthur Vance, Vivienne’s husband and a minority stakeholder. "The media is saying you falsified adoption records! They're saying the child belongs to Archibald Sterling’s true estate! The Department of Justice is already preparing an inquiry into corporate fraud and custodial kidnapping!"

Julian didn't raise his voice. He simply leaned forward, resting his forearms on the table, fixing Vance with a stare that made the older man shrink into his leather chair.

"Arthur," Julian said softly. "If you interrupt me again, I will have Marcus throw you through that panoramic window behind you. Do you understand?"

The room went dead quiet. Nobody doubted for a single second that Julian would do exactly that.

"Here are the facts," Julian declared, sliding a thick file across the table. "Five years ago, Archibald Sterling faked his death to evade international war-profiteering charges in the Hague. He liquidated his liquid reserves and funneled them into an offshore trust, using a falsified birth record tied to a surrogate child—a child his family attempted to use as an untouchable financial vault."

Julian opened the file, revealing a pristine, stamped document bearing the seal of the United States Federal Court and Interpol.

"Clara discovered the scheme before she died. She rescued Leo from a covert medical facility in Bern before Archibald could lock the trust into an irreversible sovereign escrow. Clara brought Leo to me. Not because he was an asset, but because he was an innocent child slated for psychological and financial exploitation."

"And the biological claim?" asked Evelyn Reed, the board’s chief financial officer, her voice shaking slightly. "Is he... is he Archibald’s grandson?"

Julian’s gaze remained immovable. "Leo is my son. The papers are signed. The court has sealed the decree. But more importantly: Blackwood Enterprises owns sixty-two percent of the Sterling debt notes. If Archibald wants a war of succession, he won't just lose the child. I am going to foreclose on his ghost empire and wipe his name from human history."

Suddenly, the large projection screen behind Julian flickered, bypassing the internal firewall.

A live video feed connected.

Archibald Sterling appeared on the massive display, seated on the deck of a superyacht surrounded by the azure waters of the Mediterranean.

"Eloquent speech, Julian," Archibald chuckled. "Truly inspiring. But while you were busy lecturing your board, did you check the convoy transporting your precious boy to the private airfield?"
