Chapter 80 - The Ghost Signal from the Marianas

The submarine breached the surface of the Atlantic with the force of an erupting volcano.

Thousands of tons of displaced water cascaded off the curved titanium hull as the conning tower burst into the freezing night air. The sudden, violent violent rocking of the vessel threw Victoria off balance. Her ruined leg buckled beneath her.

Elena lunged.

She didn't use the gun. She drove her shoulder straight into Victoria’s chest, pinning the older woman against the emergency pressure bulkhead. With a single, savage twist of her wrist, Elena tore the detonator wire from the scuttling harness and hurled the firing box across the bridge, smashing it against the iron console.

Victoria clawed at Elena’s face, her nails tearing into Elena’s cheek, screaming obscenities into the salt-thick air. Elena caught Victoria’s wrists, twisting them until the matriarch dropped the flare gun, and shoved her backward into the conning tower escape trunk.

Elena slammed the heavy circular hatch down and locked the exterior wheel with a resounding, final *CLANG*.

Victoria’s muffled screams and frantic pounding echoed from inside the steel tube, growing weaker and weaker until they were swallowed by the roar of the Atlantic gale.

Elena collapsed against the command console, completely drained, her breath coming in ragged, steaming gasps. Maya lay safely inside her jacket, warm, breathing softly, gazing up at the flashing control panels with innocent curiosity.

Elena reached up and engaged the emergency radio transponder, setting it to the international maritime distress frequency.

"Mayday, Mayday, Mayday," Elena spoke into the transmitter, her voice steady and clear for the first time in weeks. "This is Elena Montgomery aboard the unregistered vessel *Sovereign*. The threats on board are neutralized. Requesting immediate naval escort and medical extraction."

For a long moment, there was only the hiss of white noise.

Then, the main sonar suite on the forward display console suddenly chimed.

It wasn't the distress channel answering.

A low-frequency acoustic signal—a deep, rhythmic sonar ping—cut through the submarine's encrypted communication array. It bypassed every firewall, every dynastic protocol, and illuminated the main tactical map on the bridge.

Elena’s blood turned to ice as she looked at the screen.

The *Montgomery Sovereign* was not alone.

Surrounding them, emerging from the black depths of the offshore trench at an impossible speed, were three massive acoustic contacts. But their transponder codes didn't belong to the United States Navy, nor did they belong to the Montgomery Corporation.

Across the master terminal, a line of green text typed itself out, originating from an encrypted satellite relay anchored deep in the Pacific:

**PROJECT LEVIATHAN: PHASE TWO COMMENCED.**

**THANK YOU FOR ELIMINATING THE MONTGOMERY PATRIARCH, ELENA.**

May you like

**NOW, BRING THE TRUE HEIR TO US.**

The conning tower hatch shuddered as heavy, magnetic grappling cables slammed onto the exterior hull from above.
