Chapter 81 - The Claws of the Iron Syndicate

The deafening shriek of hydraulic clamps grinding into the submarine’s reinforced titanium hull vibrated straight through Elena’s boots, rattling the marrow in her bones. Overhead, the emergency red battle lanterns flickered violently, casting jagged, bloody shadows across the command deck. Inside the warm cocoon of Elena’s tactical jacket, Maya stirred, letting out a small, terrified whimper.
"Shh, baby, mama’s got you," Elena whispered, her voice a razor-sharp whisper over the rhythmic groaning of the compromised superstructure. Her knuckles were bruised and white against the grip of the tactical submachine gun she had stripped from one of Victoria’s fallen mercenaries.
On the main battle bridge, the primary tactical terminal hummed with malicious intent. The eerie green text remained burned into the monitor: *PROJECT LEVIATHAN: PHASE TWO COMMENCED. THANK YOU FOR ELIMINATING THE MONTGOMERY PATRIARCH, ELENA. NOW, BRING THE TRUE HEIR TO US.*
Elena’s mind raced through the horror of the last seventy-two hours. She had fought tooth and nail from the saltwater depths of the Atlantic, survived the burning wreckage of the family dynasty, and locked her psychotic mother-in-law, Victoria Montgomery, inside the starboard torpedo tube. She thought she had reached the finish line. She thought the nightmare had drowned in the black water.
She was wrong. Victoria Montgomery, with all her billions and psychopathic delusions of grandeur, was never the apex predator. She was merely a lavishly funded front for something far colder, far more terrifying: an offshore syndicate that traded in dynasties, nations, and bloodlines.
*CLANG-THUD.*
A second magnetic grapple bit into the conning tower above. The automated interior pressure gauges plummeted by three atmospheres as the exterior docking collar pressurized. Someone was docking an assault craft directly onto the *Sovereign’s* primary escape trunk.
"Warning: External airlock cycle initiated," the synthetic voice of the vessel’s automated AI chimed, indifferent to the imminent slaughter. "Override clearance code: OMEGA-SEVEN recognized. Welcome, Director Vance."
Elena’s heart slammed against her ribs like a captive bird. *Director Vance.* The name was whispered in the darkest encrypted ledgers she had stolen from the Montgomery family vault. Julian Vance—the ghost investor who had funded the original Montgomery maritime empire thirty years ago, a man long believed dead after a plane crash in the Bering Strait.
Elena didn't waste a second. She reached down, tightening the heavy straps of Maya’s chest harness, securing her infant daughter against her chest. She grabbed an extra drum of armor-piercing ammunition, two tactical flashbangs, and a thermal flare.
"They don't get you, Maya," Elena hissed between clenched teeth, tears of sheer adrenaline stinging her eyes. "Not while my heart is beating. Not while I still have breath in my lungs."

Above her, the heavy steel wheel of the conning tower hatch began to spin, screaming under the torque of an exterior pneumatic drill. Sparks showered down the central access ladder like molten rain.
Elena raised her weapon, aimed dead center at the hatch, and backed slowly toward the shadows of the secondary auxiliary corridor.
