Chapter 89 - The Trigger in the Mother's Pulse

Elena stared at Lucian Montgomery, the brother Arthur had never mentioned, the hidden phantom of the Montgomery lineage.
"Arthur is dead," Elena spat, the venom in her voice masking the cold dread gripping her spine. "Your mother murdered him. And she died in the wreckage above."
"Mother was an archaic relic," Lucian said coldly, stepping forward and crouching down until his cold, dead eyes were level with Elena’s. "She thought holding the child hostage would buy her back her social standing in New York and London. She didn't understand the scale of what we built down here. Project Leviathan doesn't care about Manhattan penthouses or high-society galas, Elena."
Lucian gestured toward the massive blast-resistant glass wall behind him. Outside, in the pitch-black waters of the deep trench, sat an enormous fleet of automated, nuclear-capable stealth drones—hundreds of unmanned underwater leviathans capable of paralyzing every submarine cable, trade lane, and naval fleet on Earth.
"The activation keys to the autonomous network were encoded into Arthur’s genetic sequencing by our father," Lucian explained smoothly, his hand reaching toward Maya’s face. "When Arthur died without entering the failsafe, the protocol defaulted to his only biological offspring. Your daughter is the biological root key to the entire grid. With a single drop of her blood on the central sequencer, the Leviathan fleet awakens."
"You will never touch her," Elena growled.
"I don't need your permission, sister-in-law," Lucian sneered. He signaled to the guards. "Take the baby to the laboratory. Dispose of Elena through the waste airlock. Let the trench crush what's left of her."
Two guards stepped forward, reaching for Maya.

In that fraction of a second, Elena’s maternal instinct transcended fear, pain, and human limits.
She didn't fight the guards. She grabbed the exposed high-voltage severed cable lying beside the drained moonpool—the cable that powered the heavy hydraulic tractor clamps—and drove the live, sparking end directly into the flooded floor grating beneath the guards' feet.
