Chapter 71 - The Crimson Singularity

The ocean did not merely churn; it convulsed. The four massive magnetic harpoons struck the submarine’s reinforced titanium hull with the sound of church bells tolling in hell. Shockwaves rippled through the pressurized steel, sending spiderwebs of fractures across the reinforced glass viewports and throwing Daniel Vance to his knees. The salt spray stung his eyes, but it was not the cold Pacific brine that froze his veins.
It was Lily.
The three-year-old girl stood perfectly upright on the violently oscillating deck, completely immune to the laws of inertia. Her tiny hands were clenched at her sides, and her face—once glowing with innocent hazel warmth—was now bathed in a terrifying, rhythmic pulse of pure crimson light emanating from her retinas. The voice that rolled past her trembling lips carried an acoustic resonance that bypassed Daniel’s ears entirely, vibrating directly against the base of his skull.
*"The Mother of Sins has arrived, Daddy. And she's not here for me."*
"Lily! Look at me!" Daniel roared against the deafening shriek of shearing metal. He lunged forward, his combat-hardened hands wrapping around her fragile shoulders, expecting to feel the soft, trembling frame of his little girl. Instead, touching her was like grasping an electrified iron rod. A violent kinetic back-blast tossed him three feet backward onto the wet grated deck.
Beside him, Claire rose from the shadows, her twin tactical blades drawn, her eyes wide with unadulterated dread. "Daniel, don't touch her! Her neural pathways are in hyper-flux! The Cipher isn't just awake—it's transmitting!"
Above them, blotting out the stars and casting an abyssal shadow over the sea, hung the leviathan flagship of Sarah Vance. It was an oceanic dreadnought, a black-hulled monster stretching over nine hundred feet across the water, equipped with vertical missile silos and sloped stealth armor that seemed to drink the moonlight. On its forward observation bridge, illuminated by cold amber halogen lights, stood Sarah Vance in her immaculate white silk gown, flanked by the two golden-eyed twin boys.
"If she isn't here for Lily..." Daniel yelled, wiping blood and saltwater from his forehead as the four harpoon cables tightened, hoisting the submarine out of the churning froth like a slaughtered beast on a meat hook, "...then what does that monster want?"
Claire looked down at Daniel, her breath catching in her throat, a truth she had buried under a decade of military conditioning threatening to tear her apart. "She wants the Origin Key, Daniel. She doesn't need Lily's mind. She needs the only genetic code capable of unlocking the final chamber of Black Horizon." Claire’s voice cracked. "She needs *you*."
Before Daniel could process the words, the sky split open. A secondary assault team descended from the dreadnought’s underbelly via high-speed repelling cables. Six black-armored strike operatives, their helmets bearing the glowing golden insignias of Project Black Horizon, hit the deck of the listing submarine with thunderous precision.
Their weapons were raised not at Lily, but squarely at Daniel’s chest.
"Secure the Patriarch!" the squad commander barked over an external loudspeaker, his voice distorted through a cybernetic vocoder. "Lethal force authorized on the rogue carrier! Target Alpha must remain breathing—strip his limbs if necessary!"
"Over my dead body!" Daniel snarled. The instincts forged in a dozen black-ops campaigns ignited within his blood. He drew his customized tactical sidearm and fired three rounds in rapid succession. The heavy armor-piercing bullets sparked off the commander’s kinetic shield, knocking the soldier back half a step, but doing no real damage.
Then, Lily moved.
She didn't run; she glided. The crimson aura around her ocular implants surged into blinding brilliance. A high-pitched sonic hum erupted from her tiny chest, vibrating at a frequency that turned the salt spray into a mist of vaporized steam.
"Target lock acquired," Lily whispered, her tone utterly detached from human empathy. "Severing puppet lines."
She slammed her tiny, pale palms against the iron deck. A shockwave of pure bio-magnetic force ripped across the hull. The two nearest operatives were lifted clean off their boots, their internal armor electronics detonating in a shower of blue sparks as their hearts stopped instantly. They crashed into the ocean below, lifeless before they hit the waves.
Daniel watched in horror and awe as his three-year-old child stood between him and an army of killers. But the crimson light in her eyes flickered, accompanied by a trickle of dark blood leaking from her left nostril. Her body was burning out.
"Daddy..." Lily’s real voice suddenly broke through the terrifying chorus, fragile, terrified, and heartbreakingly small. "It hurts. She’s pulling... she’s pulling my head apart..."
Daniel’s heart shattered. He forgot the dreadnought, forgot the conspiracy, forgot the fate of the world. He lunged forward, ignoring the searing electric sting, and wrapped his arms around his daughter. "I've got you, baby! I've got you!"
From the bridge of the flagship above, Sarah’s amplified voice cascaded down like a biblical judgment.

"How touching, Daniel," Sarah purred, her laughter cold and crystalline through the storm. "Cling to her while you can. Because in ten seconds, I will drag you from that rust bucket, crack open your skull, and take what was promised to me."
